Ever since we first visited Goose Creek State Park, we have wanted to go back. This gem of a park is well known and loved by locals to the Beaufort County, North Carolina area but is often overlooked by people from outside the immediate area. The park is immaculately maintained and offers a lot of different kinds of outdoor experiences depending on your preferences. They have an RV and Camper Cabin campground that is far from my cup of tea but gets the less "roughing it" campers in the game. They have a "primitive" campground that is more secluded and only has vault toilets. The park also has day use only areas.
We love the primitive campground. It is perfect for tent camping, it is waterfront on Goose Creek and it is off the beaten path of the other areas of the park. It has access to hiking trails and places to launch paddle craft into Goose Creek. It also boasts some amazing sunsets from the end of the peninsula where the campground is located.
Having camped here before, we knew the lay of the land. We booked out far enough in advance that we could the campsite that we really wanted... which was closest to the water! Last time we camped we did not have a canoe with us but this time we knew we wanted to paddle!
Scenes from around the primitive campground, the Goose Creek Trails, the Flatty Creek Trail and the Palmetto Boardwalk Trail
Some paddling pictures around Goose Creek and Flatty Creek. Paddling with a hyperactive dog is... interesting....
During our camping trip to Cape Lookout, our Kelty Yellowstone tent that we had been using for years was ripped open by the wind. It had dutifully served us well on numerous camping trips but we really needed to invest in a new tent. We saw this tent while we were out at the Cape and were super impressed by it. I did some research and really like what I saw. So we bought a North Face Wawona 6 and were able to use it for the first time at Goose Creek. Not disappointed at all. The tent is super roomy and well built and the innovative fly with vestibule really extends the space and versatility of the tent. It wasn't hard to set up or take town and was rock solid once it was up. If you are looking for a car camping or base camp tent, I highly recommend it.
I love this picture of Cora the Explorer hauling the gear from our paddle trip. Such a little adventurer.
Goose Creek did not disappoint. As always.
