Pilot Mountain State Park, located in Surry and Yadkin counties in North Carolina, is a breathtaking chunk of rock raising over 2000 feet above the surrounding terrain. We have passed by Pilot Mountain more times than I can count while traveling.. so we finally decided to stop and check it out. A winding drive up the park road leads to a parking lot just South of the pinnacle. A short trail leads to stunning views looking across at the pinnacle.
The view to the Yadkin Valley below is absolutely stunning and pictures do not do this view justice:
The park offers a campground and multiple hiking trails. There is a trail that travels around the bottom of the pinnacle and a longer trail that travels from the campground area up to the top. Experience rock climbers can climb here after filling out paperwork with park staff.
It was a short visit but impressive and memorable. Definitely putting this spot on our list for places to come back to!
