West Jefferson, Ashe County, North Carolina - July 2023

Our summer travels ended with a weekend in West Jefferson, North Carolina. We often travel to the NC mountains on our adventures and often end up going to the same areas we know and love... so we decided this summer to try a place we have never been but have heard so many wonderful things about and boy West Jefferson did not disappoint.

This small town in Ashe county has lots for the visitor to do and experience. the town itself sits under the shadow of its namesake, Mount Jefferson. Mount Jefferson is a state recreation area. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to explore Mount Jefferson on our quick weekend visit but we will definitely be back and check it out next time.

The town has a quaint main street down town full of stores and restaurants. We enjoyed shopping with Bull's Boots, Mountain Outfitters, Footsloggers and the various antique stores and boutiques being the highlights. West Jefferson is also home to the famous Ashe County Cheese factory and store. Definitely worth a visit!

There is a ton of food options in West Jefferson. We like a brewery and West Jefferson has two! We ate and drank and both Boondocks Brewing and New River Brewing. Both had wonderful food and even better beers. They are hopping spots that are pretty crowded but worth it.

We booked an Air BnB that was a loft apartment right on main street above one the shops. We had a beautiful view of Mount Jefferson out the window and were conveniently located to all the shopping and food options in town. This was a great experience that was not our usual go to for a rental but was totally worth it.

If you ever get the chance, check out West Jefferson!
